“Stay the Course”: BOS Sets Implementation Priorities for the GPU
On January 26th, the BOS reviewed the General Plan Work Program and Implementation Priorities.
This was the Board’s opportunity to determine which aspects of the recently adopted General Plan Update they would prioritize for the year. They agreed to “stay the course” rather than take advantage of grant money available to help implement other parts of the General Plan intended to provide residents with “traffic safety, water security, emergency response, and resource conservation benefits.”
They are also fully missing an opportunity to prioritize creating an “open space plan” which would help preserve the rolling oak woodlands and other rural characters that many Calaveras County residents treasure. An open space plan is required by law, and would ultimately help developers and land owners. Despite acknowledging the need for this, the BOS opted not to make open space a priority.
