SONORA – Stanislaus National Forest officials will hold two open houses to inform the public on the Rim Fire Recovery Project, including salvage logging, and efforts to restore roads and protect water quality.
The open houses will be 2-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 19777 Greenley Road, Sonora.
The Rim Fire started Aug. 17 in a remote area of the Stanislaus National Forest near the confluence of the Clavey and Tuolumne Rivers. It ultimately burned 257,000 acres, including 154,430 acres on national forest lands. It was the third-largest wildfire in California history.
The recovery plan includes a proposal to conduct salvage logging on almost 30,000 acres, or more than 10 percent of the total fire area.
