Draft Copperopolis Community Plan Available – Comments due July 7th
Calaveras County has released a draft Copperopolis Community Plan. You can view the plan on the Planning Department website here, or download the plan by clicking here.
Copperopolis Community Plan Comments Due July 7
The future of property values, taxes and fees, overcrowding, gentrification, fire prevention and protection, law enforcement, traffic congestion, Lake Tulloch congestion and water supply, sewer service, fire service, reclaim water, and wastewater treatment in Copperopolis could be greatly affected by this community plan.
If you have ideas about what you would like the future to look like in Copperopolis, email your comments by July 7 to Planning Director Gabriel Elliot at GElliott@co.calaveras.ca.us
In your comments you might want to:
- Support the many positive aspirations for the Copperopolis community expressed in the vision, goals and policies in the draft community plan.
- Ask the County to, when possible, link the positive aspirations in the community plan policies to actual implementation measures already approved by the Board of Supervisors in the 2019 General Plan Update. This will help to make the aspirations become a reality.
- Ask that promotional verbs like “encourage” and “support” be exchanged for verbs that commit the County to achieve the plan’s positive aspirations like “ensure”, “employ”, “apply”, “complete”, “require” and “secure”. Again, this will help to make the aspirations become a reality.
Copper Community Plan comments may be emailed to Gabriel Elliott, Director of Planning, at GElliott@co.calaveras.ca.us Comments are due by July 7, 2023

CPC Draft Copperopolis Community Plan Text with Explanations: In September, our Copperopolis Community Plan Team completed and sent its draft community plan to the County Planning Department. This plan was the culmination of months of effort to gather together the best parts of the prior draft community plans of 2005 and 2013, and to add newly relevant policies. The plan includes policies on wildlife habitat protection, designing with nature, oak woodland conservation, agricultural land conservation, and timely implementation of the 2019 General Plan.

CPC Members Speak Up at GPU Hearing to Defend Community Plans
On July 30 and 31, 2019 members of the CPC spoke during the public comment period to defend community plans. The rescinding of Community Plans for Arnold, Avery/Hathaway Pines, Murphys, Copperopolis, and Valley Springs in the General Plan Update illustrates a lack of responsiveness to both public and Supervisor concerns.
