CSERC tree planting project outside of Groveland on Nov. 18th
We started our volunteer year out with tree planting, and that is how we will end it! Can you come out to help for one more day of stewardship?
Why tree planting?: It is important to plant new conifer seedlings in a recently burned area where the hot wildfire roasted nearly all of the conifers. More conifers within the fire boundary died from bark beetles, so there are now many major open areas with no trees. The tree planting is intended to get the sites back to conifer forest habitat as soon as possible.
Work Description – CSERC, volunteers, and Stanislaus Forest staff will be digging small holes and planting young conifers (pine, fir, cedars). CSERC is aiming to get 15-20 people participating at this project.
Where – We will be working in an area of the Stanislaus Forest just outside of the town of Groveland.
What should you bring on a volunteer workday?
– bring a lunch and water
– work clothes (long pants required) and closed toe shoes
– sun protection
– you might want to bring a daypack to carry your items
– any optional items (like a hiking pole)
– no dogs please
– It may be cool weather, so bring some layers to make sure you are comfortable
– we’ll provide the tools, gloves, and some light refreshments (snacks and drinks)
It’s important to sign up in advance, so that we know if we have enough volunteers and so we can contact you if there are any last minute changes. We’ll confirm with you the meet-up time and location and any other logistics once you RSVP.
Hope you can join us! Share this invite with a friend!
