County residents urged to participate in federal broadband survey
The Valley Springs News / January 4, 2023
A large-scale initiative is under way to advance access to reliable, affordable high-speed
broadband internet to areas that are underserved, according to Kathy Gallino, Calaveras
County Economic & Community Development Department director.
The Federal Communications Commission has released an updated National Broadband
Map that details specific location level informIation about broadband services available
throughout the country. The release of the map initiates a public challenge process that will
play a critical role in improving the accuracy of the maps’ internet services related information.
“An accurate map is an important resource for obtaining funding and other efforts to bring
broadband to unserved and underserved areas of Calaveras County,” Gallino said.
Between now and January 13, 2023, the public is encouraged to view the map at https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov where you will be able to review the service information
presented for your address.
If any of the services presented are not provided at the address, or the service levels are
incorrect, map users are encouraged to file a challenge with the FCC by following the prompts
on the website.
A two-minute video is available on YouTube with instructions on this process. Visit

FCC National Broadband Map on a PC or mobile device.
“This important action is benefited from public participation,” Gallino added. “The accuracy
of the FCC National Broadband Map will support efforts and funding to improve access to
broadband services in Calaveras County.”
