Calaveras Adds Clause to County Code re: Inactive Development Projects
By The Record
March 05, 2012
SAN ANDREAS – Real estate development applications will no longer live forever in Calaveras County.
The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors last week voted unanimously to put a sunset clause into county code so that projects that are inactive will eventually be taken off the books. The clause allows staff to consider terminating the applications if developers fail to respond to the county official inquiries for three to six months.
The lack of a sunset clause has been a headache for county leaders in recent years. Property involved in long-dormant projects in some cases has been foreclosed on and changed hands several times, only to have a bank or other new owner seek to revive the development without paying fees that would support the staff work involved.
