Agency wants public input on transit needs

The Calaveras Council of Governments will discuss the county’s unmet transit needs at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Board of Supervisors Chambers in San Andreas. As the official overseer of Calaveras Transit, it collects public input regarding the county’s only public transportation service annually.

Unmet needs include all issues regarding the provision of “necessary” trips, or trips that are essential to the maintenance of life, such as improved access to social serve programs, stopping at major employment destinations and education locations.

Comment regarding operational improvements – bus stop locations, schedules or route changes – do not fall under the scope of transit needs and will not be considered in the council’s final report released in May.

Those interested in providing transit need feedback are encouraged to attend public hearings addressing the subject this week. Public input will be taken today, March 5, at 6 p.m. at the Angels Camp City Council meeting, at Wednesday’s CCOG meeting, and at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in Murphys at Faith Lutheran Church, 65 Mitchler St. Online forms are also available by visiting calacog.org.

Other agenda items for the evening include approving CCOG as the applicant for a planning grant between Caltrans and Angels Camp. The grant would fund a Gateway Corridor study along Highway 4 and 49 – within city limits – that would address safety, access, aesthetics and mobility needs.
