Action Alert: Thank and Encourage the Planning Commission for its Work on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan

On August 10, the Calaveras County Planning Commission will receive a list of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction measures that, when implemented, will be sufficient to meet the County’s reduction targets by 2030.  This is the culmination of over three years of work inventorying GHG emissions, identifying reduction targets, and refining programs to reduce GHG emissions.  Click here to view the memo from the consultants working on the plan, scheduled to be discussed at the August 10th Planning Commission Meeting.

Please email your comments and appreciation by August 9 to the Planning Commission and the Planning Director at the following addresses:

Planning Director Gabriel Elliott at: ‘
Gabriel Elliott’ GElliott@co.calaveras.ca.us

Planning Commissioners at:
‘Michelle Plotnik’ mplotnick@co.calaveras.ca.us
‘Timothy Laddish’ TLaddish@co.calaveras.ca.us
‘Michael Chimente’ MChimente@co.calaveras.ca.us
‘C. J. Singh’ CJSingh@co.calaveras.ca.us
‘Don Parker’ dparker@co.calaveras.ca.us

Also include Planning Commission Administrative Staff: ahuse@co.calaveras.ca.us.

  • Thank them for coming up with a reasonable list of actions with achievable GHG reduction targets.

  • Thank them for including measures to implement parts of the 2019 General Plan that are supportive of GHG reduction.

  • Thank them for seeking to reduce GHG emissions predominantly through programs to support those willing to reduce GHG missions rather than regulations to try to force those unwilling.

  • Thank them for recognizing both the availability of state and federal funding to support these GHG reduction programs and the absolute necessity that the County apply to receive that funding.  This includes funding for capacity building to secure trained staff capable of implementing the programs.

  • Encourage the Planning Department to identify by May of 2024 the staff and funding needed to implement the programs so that the County will be poised both to apply for state and federal funding and to adopt a fiscally sound County budget.

  • Encourage the Planning Commission to recommend that the County track GHG reductions on an ongoing basis, and produce an implementation progress report in 2030 to verify the effectiveness of the GHG reduction measures.

  • Finally, encourage the Planning Commission to update the GHG reduction plan in 2030 to adopt additional measures needed to meet the 2045 GHG reduction targets.
