Action Alert: Support Our Parks

Action Alert: Support Our Parks

Calaveras County is updating its Master Parks and Recreation Plan, and they want to hear from you.

 Suggested Comments and Concerns

  • TAKE THE SURVEY and use the “other” option to provide specific, meaningful feedback on the survey
  • Use the “other” option on the survey to list the parks that matter to you and your community that should be included in the plan
  • Make suggestions about what parks and recreation needs exist in your community
  • Encourage the County to expand the scope of the plan to include more than just the five parks listed
  • Remind the County a draft Master Parks Plan was created in 2013

You can make a difference by

  • Attending a community meeting
  • Filling out the online survey
  • Helping ensure the plan is comprehensive
  • Providing additional comments to Kathy Gallino, Calaveras County Economic Development, Parks & Recreation, at ParksandRec@calaverascounty.gov

Why does it matter?

A parks master plan can and should do the following:

  • Assess future recreation needs of the community
  • Establish a long-range vision
  • Prioritize Capital Improvement Projects (CIP)
  • Fill gaps and reduce redundancies within the parks systems
  • Build community support
  • Promote new ideas and partnerships

Let the County know you want these elements included in the plan!

The County needs to hear from you! Calaveras County has a multitude of public parks and recreation opportunities. Unfortunately the County appears to be leaving many of those parks out of the plan. Let them know about the parks not listed below that matter to you and your community.

  • San Andreas, Alex Quinones Park, Nielson Park
  • Mountain Ranch, Mountain Ranch Community Park
  • Murphys, Murphys Park
  • Rail Road Flat, Rail Road Flat Community Center

The goal of the community meetings and online survey is to analyze the current programs and facilities and to consider the community needs and aspirations.  For any additional questions, email ParksandRec@calaverascounty.gov .
