Speak up for Mokelumne River recreation and protection on Monday and Tuesday
Three different foothill governing bodies will discuss the Mokelumne River at their meetings next week. We hope you can go and speak up for river protection and recreation. Protecting and using the Moke is good for people, fish and wildlife — and for our local economy. And thanks to everyone who came to the BLM hearing on July 31.

The Jackson City Council will consider a letter of support for the BLM’s proposed commercial use feasibility study on the Electra-Middle Bar runs. Please come and urge the city to support this careful look at commercial rafting and kayak classes, which would benefit Jackson businesses.The council meets in the Jackson Civic Center at the corner of Highways 88 and 49.

The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will also consider supporting the BLM’s proposed study. The item is on the consent agenda, but could be pulled for discussion. The board meets in its chambers at Government Center, 891 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.

The Amador County Board of Supervisors will consider establishing a committee to “review issues associated with the Wild and Scenic Designation on the Mokelumne River.” It’s important for any county committee to take a balanced view. Opponents of the designation may come out to speak, so we hope some of you will join us to provide a voice for the river! The meeting is at the Amador County Administrative Center, 810 Court St, Jackson.
