What You Can Do

                                      It’s up to us.

As Thomas Jefferson once said, “We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.”

Unfortunately, too often really important decisions made at the local level are made in a vacuum — the public is absent from critical meetings, public opinion is unknown, and elected officials are left to guess how their constituents feel about an issue. Sometimes our elected officials get it right, but sometimes they don’t.

We, the people, are the solution, but we need to get involved.

                                What can you do?

  • Stay connected! Contact us and ask to be included in our email list or click below!
  • Attend CPC meetings! We meet on the first Monday of every month at 3pm at the Volunteer Center behind San Andreas Elementary school (meetings will be held via Zoom due to Covid-19). This is an excellent way to connect with other concerned citizens in Calaveras County who are coming together to collaborate on community solutions to land use issues. Email tomi@volcano.net to sign up to receive the CPC agenda.
  • Lend your voice to the call for a comprehensive update of the General Plan that is faithful to the vision of the people of Calaveras County.
  • Celebrate your birthday with CAP! When your next birthday rolls around, ask your friends and family to make a donation in your name to the Community Action Project/Calaveras Planning Coalition instead of giving you a toaster or a set of socket wrenches. Celebrate your birthday and a great cause at the same time. View more details here!
  • Be sure to check our links and resources page to connect with other organizations, get more information on various issues that YOU care about, get ideas for individual actions to ensure community resiliency, and learn about projects and funding opportunities.
  • Make a financial contribution to CAP. You may donate online, through PayPal or send your tax-deductible contribution to Community Action Project, PO Box 935, San Andreas, CA 95249. Checks can be made payable to CAP or EPFW/CAP.
  • Adopt a Location! CAP/CPC keeps brochures stocked throughout Calaveras County. Contact our Outreach Coordinator if you’re interested in volunteering to adopt a location to monitor and keep stocked with CAP/CPC brochures, or if you have an idea of a place where you think we should be keeping brochures.
  • Sign Up for Escrip – If you shop at select grocery stores, such as Sierra Hills Market in Murphys, MAR-VAL, and O’Briens (click here for the full list), you could be earning CAP/CPC money. Participating grocery stores contribute a percentage of your spending to CAP/CPC when you sign up and use your Escrip card. Click here for more information and to sign up!

Thank you very much!

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME AT CPC MEETINGS

Organizations, groups, and individuals may join the CPC. Prospective members may attend two consecutive meetings before making a final decision on membership in the Coalition. The membership form is a pledge to support and advocate for the Coalition’s eleven Land Use and Development Principles, which you will find here. There is no membership fee. However, members are encouraged to donate to the CAP/CPC.  Visitors and prospective members will, by necessity, be excluded from attorney/client privileged discussions. If you are interested in membership, please email CPC Facilitator Tom Infusino, tomi@volcano.net, to receive a membership form, agenda, and the Zoom meeting connection.

To help prevent the spread of Covid-19 in our county, all CAP/CPC meetings will be held online via Zoom until restrictions are lifted by the Public Health Department.

Fill out the membership form and email it to us at calaverascap@gmail.com

Or send your membership form via US mail to:
