2012 Mokelumne River cleanup

Saturdays, September 15 and October 20

Various sites along the river

Mark the dates! Join your friends and neighbors for a true green experience: cleaning the banks of the Mokelumne River, the river itself or its local reservoirs! Part of the fourth annual Great Sierra River Cleanup.

What: Two fun days of cleaning the river, its banks and reservoirs. The cleanup benefits wildlife and water quality while keeping the Mokelumne a beautiful place to visit.

The cleanup will take place on two days: Saturday, September 15 and Saturday, October 20.

Information for both days

Volunteers under 18 welcome if accompanied by responsible adult (one adult for every four minors, please). Liability waivers or releases for volunteers under 18 must be signed by a parent or guardian. Groups are welcome — please contact us in advance. No pets, please.

Bring: Work gloves, a canteen or water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, a sack lunch (on September 15, there will be a barbecue for volunteers at Camanche South Shore, but North Fork Mokelumne participants will eat lunch along the river) and your signed liability release form. We’ll provide water and snacks. No alcoholic beverages or pets allowed.

Wear work clothes: sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots, hat, work gloves, long pants (recommended). Personal flotation devices are recommended for those working by the river.

Paddlers with appropriate boats and flotation devices are welcome to help from the river.

For Foothill Conservancy sites, there will be a prize for the weirdest trash find and chance to win some cool prizes.

Saturday, September 15

Foothill Conservancy’s site today is the North Fork Mokelumne below Salt Springs Reservoir, east of Pioneer and south of Highway 88. Specifics will be sent out with registration confirmation. There are additional cleanup sites at East Bay MUD’s Pardee Reservoir, Camanche Reservoir and the Lower Mokelumne River from the Mokelumne River Day Use area all the way to Woodbridge Dam.

Pardee Lake Recreation and Camanche Recreation Company are also generously providing a free night of camping for EBMUD site cleanup volunteers. Choose “Yes” on the EBMUD sign up form if you require a campsite.

For additional information on the EBMUD sites, contact Event Coordinator David Johnson at 209-772-8339 or send him an e-mail.
